QE Hospital and QE Facilities work together to support Feeding Families

Fundraising and supporting the community we live and work in is built into the values of both the NHS and QE Facilities. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead recently organised a large collection of donations for the local charity, Feeding Families, which were then kindly delivered by the QEF transport team. Feeding Families is a charity based in North East England that offers support, hope and security to families experiencing food poverty. The charity delivers over a 1,000 emergency food boxes each month within our region.

Food poverty within the North East is already a problem, and the pressures rise around this time of year as we near ever closer to Christmas. For a lot of us Christmas is a wonderful time of year but there are many families that find it an extra stress on top of the daily challenges of living. The expectations of special gifts and a lavish meal can be very overwhelming for families struggling to make ends meet. Feeding Families run a specific programme around Christmas that match those wanting to donate with applicants that need the support of a food hamper. The hamper is to be filled with items to provide a special meal for Christmas day, giving the recipients one less thing to worry about. So often we struggle to see the difference our

contributions make and the programme is a great way to see at first-hand how your donation helps a family in need.

Of course we appreciate that not everyone has the time or money to commit to curating a Christmas hamper.

Feeding families accept donations of food or you can leave a monetary donation. As little as £5 can provide a toiletry pack for a person in need. Perhaps you are not in a position to donate but you still wish to get involved you can join their army of 3000 volunteers, whether it’s weekly support or a one off they are happy to receive the support.
